Explore this beautiful island
Naxos is the largest and most fertile island of the Cyclades. It has a vast history, traces of which can be found at an astonishing density throughout the island. Being rich in natural resources, Naxos has always been self-sufficient. In this tour, we’ll visit the main sights and we’ll learn a lot about its history, arts, crafts and tradition. We’ll also interact with the locals and we’ll taste the renowned local cuisine.
Itinerary
We’ll start at Damalas, a small village in the center of Naxos and we’ll visit a traditional pottery workshop. Next, we’ll drive to Chalki, the old Venetian capital and we’ll visit the local distillery, an art gallery and a 6th-century byzantine basilica. Just a few minutes drive away, we’ll head to Filoti, the largest village of all Cyclades. We’ll walk through the Old Market and we’ll see what life was like before electricity. Next, we’ll drive to Apiranthos, a unique village made entirely of marble. Lunch in a traditional local tavern. On the way back, we’ll drive by the largest marble quarries of the island, and we’ll head to Kouros, an abandoned statue carved in 570BC.
